Men in Dance: Virtual Celebration Festival
October 3 @ 8:00 pm
An event every day that begins at 8:00 pm, happening 3 times
The Board of Producers and the MID Support Board are announcing that the 13th Festival of MEN IN DANCE, originally scheduled for October 2-4 and 9-11, 2020 has been postponed until October of 2021. In its place, the organization is producing and presenting a Virtual Celebration, its first, to run online October 2, 3, and 4, 2020 at 8 pm. This Virtual Festival will feature new choreographic works of five artists, several of whom were chosen during a juried selection process this past spring. There will also be online interviews with Guest Artist Micaela Taylor, (a Cornish College of the Arts Dance BFA alumna, now directing her own company in Los Angeles) who had originally been invited to set a new piece on Seattle male-identifying dancers for the 2020 Festival. She will now present an original work of her own, filmed for this presentation. Also included is Daniel Ojeda (Boise, Idaho), who had appeared in MID’s 2019 Adjudicated Choreography Showcase, and who with his dancers won the distinction of being the top choice of the audiences and professional adjudicators at that event, giving him an immediate slot in the 2020 Festival. The other artists are Tommy Lewey (Indianapolis, IN), Dance Novella (British Columbia and New York), and Bruce McCormick (Los Angeles, CA). These talented artists will create, film, and submit their original works for this presentation, and will help us to continue to provide an evening of exciting, diverse and challenging male-identified concert dance!
This event is FREE, but we encourage you to make a donation at menindance.org, so that we can continue to operate during this devastating pandemic. Your donation will help to ensure that we can continue to bring our unique MEN IN DANCE Fesival, as well as our Adjudicated Choreographers Showcase to the Seattle community, fulfilling our mission of supporting and producing cutting-edge male-identifying concert dance, in all of its color! Mark your calendars to watch at http://watch.menindance.org.
