SLOWBURN: Half Body at Once film premiere

SLOWBURN Dance Company has created a new three part dance film, Half Body
at Once, that will premiere online on October 16th. The films will be accessible at
slowburndance.com/works and will remain available after their premiere date.
ABOUT THE WORK
Half Body at Once is a three part contemporary dance film work by SLOWBURN Dance
Company. This work revels in impermanent movement, making a home on a temporary frontier.
Interim versions of the self wander along an empty road, in search of something that is not yet

One half of a boat is sailing at full speed.
Half Body at Once is a solo performance filmed by the performer on personal property, so as to
prevent the spread of COVID-19. At this time, SLOWBURN Dance is only engaging remotely.
The performer in the film is not wearing a mask because it is filmed in the performer’s driveway,
and only household members are present on the property.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Meredith Pellon, Choreographer & Performer
Meredith Pellon is a graduate of the BFA dance program at The University of the Arts, where
she performed works by artists including Paul Matteson, Eiko Otake, Faustin Linyekula, and
Jillian Peña. Her work has been featured in Pennsylvania Ballet II: En Avant and Koresh Artist
Showcase in Pennsylvania, as well as in Ballet Inc.’s The Series, and Jennifer Muller/The Works
HATCH Presenting Series in New York City. Since relocating to Seattle, Meredith has presented
work at Performance Lab at On The Boards, Converge Dance Festival, Monomyth I (produced
by Tuya Vale Artist Collective), Seattle International Dance Festival, and Drove VII (produced by
Chlo & Co. Dance). Meredith also curates a site-specific performance series entitled Soft
Concrete, which premiered in July 2019 and is held in partnership with Jack Apartments. Soft
Concrete II will take place in November 2019. In Seattle, Meredith has danced for Allison
Burke, Beth Terwilleger, Jenny Boissiere and Elise Meiners Schwicht. In addition to dancing
and choreographing, Meredith reviews performances for SeattleDances.
ABOUT THE COMPANY
SLOWBURN Dance Company is a Seattle-based contemporary dance company, founded in
2019 by Artistic Director Meredith Pellon. The mission of the company is to present
choreographic works that value subtlety, precision of detail, and innovative movement
vocabulary. The style of the company is grounded in Pellon’s movement aesthetic, which
employs small movements and sharp shifts with resonating aftermath. SLOWBURN Dance has
performed at Base Arts Space, Columbia City Theater, and in site-specific show Soft Concrete
at Jack Apartments.
