zoe | juniper: the other shore
December 9, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
On Wednesday, December 9, 6pm PST, On the Boards & zoe | juniper will share a work-in-progress screening over Zoom, with excerpts from their recent residency at OtB, images from previous residencies at Jacob’s Pillow and more! When the COVID pandemic shook the world, zoe | juniper collaborative team reimagined this project to coexist in the virtual while being able to provide audiences the experience of physical presence, as if the viewers are in the same room with the dancer/s.
This new multidisciplinary project, the other shore, by zoe | juniper, is composed of three distinct phases that create opportunities for each participant to embody their experience. The proposed three phases include a way to experience the work both virtually and tangibly: at home, an installation and live performance.
The collaborative team is building two distinct immersive installations; one tentatively called “solo”, the other tentatively called, “duet”. “solo”, seen from two vantage points, is experienced through a 360 VR experience or viewed as a durational performative installation from the outside looking in; “duet” is seen from the vantage point of lying down on the floor looking up at the performer moving around and through the space. Each installation maintains a unique approach for live performance and encourages thinking alongside matters of perception, relational power, rituals, multi-layered worlds, and spaces as a practice of both resistance and survival, exploring what the intersection of dance and installation can do.
During the December 9th showing, zoe | juniper will present a portion of the work over Zoom, discuss their process, and answer audience questions. OtB Artistic Director Rachel Cook will facilitate. Join us for a lively discussion and sharing of this early development of the new work, the other shore. Closed captioning will be available.
