velocity: raising fun and funds this sunday

My gala-going gal-pal says this is one of the funnest fundraisers in town. There’s lots on the program. One highlight of the evening is the Desert Dash. I’ll be at OBT this weekend, but I’m sending to the Bash a Cherry Red Wine Cake made by Troubadour. It’s looking forward to a good time.

For $60, you can have a good time too and support Velocity Dance Center, home to dozens of independent choreographers. The fundraiser is especially important this year, as Velocity lost its lease and is in the process of renovating the CHAC buiding, its future home.

Since it opened in May of 1996, Velocity Dance Center has been committed to providing rehearsal space and training necessary for the continued growth of dance in the region. It’s a great place for audiences too, providing crossover that you don’t always get elsewhere. For example, I went to a Men in Dance show there several years ago…to see some PNB dancers in a piece by Olivier Wevers…and I got a chance to see my first Donald Byrd piece. Nice.

Here’s Velocity’s invitation. Hope you can be there!

Bring back the top hits from the 80s with spandex and smokin’ hot dance moves. This is no ordinary fundraiser. It’s a swanky soiree, full of dancing, fabulous auction items and a delicious dinner by chef Lisa Iannini. This year, our guests of honor are Hallie Kuperman from Century Ballroom and Seattle City Councilman Nick Licata. Join the celebration!

Featuring Solid Gold performances by: Mark Haim, Jess Klein, Lou Henry Hoover & Likity Split, Wade Madsen, Waxie Moon and Michael Rioux with Left Field Revival. Our Solid Gold host is auctioneer Laura Michalek.
