Cadence Video Poetry Festival 2024 – They multiply more and more

April 19 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

$14

Enter the dream state. Shared dreams, lucid dreams, unattainable dreams, waking dreams. These video poems are portals into ourselves and others where new associations and unexpected connections are crafted. We are suspended in the gravity of these pieces, our feet never quite touching solid ground as our emotional core soars. Using erasure, installation, tableaux, anthropomorphism, and live music, this showcase traverses the conscious, unconscious, and subconscious to imagine the multitude of pathways through reality. What will we wake up to?

This showcase features “Antipodes,” a dance film from Lithuania. Inspired by a poem of the same name, this videopoetry work immerses viewers in a world where passion and friendship intertwine to overcome life’s challenges. (directors: Elena Motiejunaite & Lyja Maknaviciute, poet: Elena Motiejunaite, Lithuania, 2023, 4 min, in Lithuanian with hardcoded English subtitles)

Cadence Video Poetry Festival, presented by Northwest Film Forum, programmed in collaboration with Seattle author Chelsea Werner-Jatzke and intermedia artist Rana San, is a series of screenings, workshops, and discussions on the genre of video poetry, during National Poetry Month.

Cadence approaches video poetry as a literary genre presented as visual media that makes new meaning from the combination of text and moving image. Featuring screenings, an artist residency, generative workshops for youth and adults, and juried awards, the festival fosters critical and creative growth around the medium of video poetry.
