i was never the siren film premiere by the House of Kilig

July 27 @ 7:00 pm - 11:00 pm

Free – $111

Step into an enchanting realm as House of Kilig proudly premieres its breathtaking inaugural film, i was never the siren (2024) directed by Moonyeka. This spellbinding film marks the first chapter in the expansive audio-visual masterpiece, Harana for the Aswang. Emceed by the captivating Alanna Francis, the evening will open with heart dropping musical performances by the Captain Preacher and Karinyo. After the film, prepare yourselves for the carnal fury of movement artists Aries Silk and the volcanic Hibiscus Lust. As the night unfolds, DJ Exesive will take over, spinning beats that will keep you dancing till the very end!

Rooted in the rich tradition of harana, a Filipinx serenade form intertwined with courtship and grief rituals, this project offers a groundbreaking reimagining of the Aswang legends. The Aswang, known for their mythological, shapeshifting, and animist traits, are brought to life through the unique perspectives of their queer and trans descendants.

i was never the siren delves into and redefines the Siren archetype, presenting a mesmerizing polyphonic experience that fuses haunting vocals, the essence of harana, poetic intimacy, wrath, and the stirring sensation of kilig. This film is a heartfelt tribute to the timeless sacredness of transsexuality and queerness, offering a space for us to be swooned and seen in the defiant (im)possibilities of love and all that died for it to exist.
