Sawubona Festival: A Celebration of the African Diaspora

Experience the artistry and kinetic energy of the African Diaspora at the Sawubona Festival. “Sawubona, “a Zulu greeting meaning “I see you,” serves as the foundation for this intergenerational celebration of humanity and cultural heritage.

The afternoon features a high-energy lineup of movement and rhythm, including the precision of the Electronettes High Steppers, the vibrant percussive storytelling of the Zambuko Marimba Ensemble, and the rhythmic athleticism of the Double Dutch Divas. Beyond the stage, the festival offers a community marketplace of BIPOC-owned businesses, food, and a health and wellness fair. Join VCBynum Arts & Education and the Bellevue College Umoja Scholars for a day where dance, music, and art bridge our community and honor our shared inherent value.
