Seattle Butoh Festival 2023: Unveiling

November 17 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Event Series Event Series (See All)
$20 – $190

DAIPANbutoh Collective presents Seattle Butoh Festival 2023: Unveiling at Georgetown’s YAW Theater on November 17-19. San Francisco-based Shinichi Iova-Koga and Asheville (NC)-based Julie Becton Gillum, our guest artists, will teach workshops and perform as well as DAIPAN members over three days. Shinichi’s company inkBoat appeared in the second Seattle Butoh Festival in 2000 at On The Boards. Julie is a well-respected teacher of Noguchi Taiso, a physical training used by many butoh artists worldwide. Shinichi and Julie are nationally and internationally known for their work and DAIPAN is pleased to present them. DAIPAN has been producing this annual festival since its founding in 2010, which offers dedicated and new audiences an opportunity to witness and study this sometimes enigmatic and intriguing global performance genre. DAIPAN’s fiscal sponsor is Shunpike and the collective receives annual support from 4Culture and recently received a C.A.R.E Grant from the City of Seattle. Performances are at 8 pm on Friday 17, Saturday 18 and Sunday 19. Workshops are on Saturday 18 (Shinichi) and Sunday 19 (Julie) from 11 am-4 pm.
