Shaping Movement: An Embodied Conversation on Body Image in Dance

July 24, 2021 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

$15 – $25.00

Dance is a celebration of the human body as a vessel for creative passion. But it also challenges us to face our systematically reinforced ideas about body image and race: Vashon Center for the Arts (VCA) welcomes that challenge.

Shaping Movement: An Embodied Conversation on Body Image in Dance draws on a diverse panel of prestigious dance professionals and health experts to examine how body image and race play out in all dance genres including ballet, hip-hop, and modern dance.

The one-night-only event and discussion will be of special interest to dancers and dance fans, athletes, educators, or those who engage with issues of body image and race.

PANELISTS:
Erica Lynette Edwards–Founder of Cultivating Better Tomorrows, former Joffrey Ballet dancer.
Joshua Spell, LICSW–Counseling Therapist at PNB, former PNB dancer.
Dani Tirrel–Founder of The Congregation, Artist in Residence at Velocity & On the Boards.
Monica Van Winkle, MS–Owner at Nutrition in Action, Health Consultant to PNB & SPU.
Noelle Price–Professional dancer, Founder of PRICEarts.
