Spectrum Dance Theater: Resilience

In the spring, Spectrum renews its collaboration with Music of Remembrance, returning to the music of Erwin Schulhoff. This collaboration also represents a return to a composer whose work has long held a particular significance for Donald Byrd. First encountering Schulhoff’s music during a Music of Remembrance performance of the Duo for Violin and Cello, Byrd was captivated by both the composer’s extraordinary imagination and the devastating historical reality of a brilliant artistic voice silenced by the Holocaust. The collaboration continues Spectrum’s ongoing dialogue with memory, history, and the enduring capacity of art to bear witness.
