Whim W’him: Fall ’24

The annual Fall Choreographic Shindig offers Whim W’Him company dancers the opportunity to select three choreographers from hundreds of applicants. 

The Fall ’24 season features new work by Carlos Franquiz, founder and creator of the project-based dance company Arch Dansé Ensemble; Noelle Kayser, Chicago-based choreographer, actor, and sound designer; and Adam McGaw, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago dancer. 

Carlos Franquiz
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Juan Carlos Franquiz, II is the founder and creator of the project-based dance company “Arch Dansé Ensemble.” Carlos received his early training at the Joffrey Ballet Academy and is an alumni of MOVE |NYC|’s Young Professionals Program. Carlos has choreographed and performed at the BAM Kids Film Festival, York College Youth Dance Showcase and Earl Mosley’s Dancing Beyond. He is currently an Associate Artist with A.I.M by Kyle Abraham.

Noelle Kayser
Chicago-based dance maker Noelle Kayser uses choreography as a means to explore and gain deeper understanding of human experience and behavior. She cites escapist fantasy to develop complex worlds and characters using both linear and non-linear narratives. Her most recent work looks at fascination with decorum and hierarchical social structures. She has choreographed for SALT Dance Festival, Visceral Dance Chicago, the Boykin Dance Project, COMMON Conservatory, and DanceWorks Chicago, among others.

Adam McGaw
With seven years of experience dancing with various companies—including Hubbard Street Dance Chicago—Adam McGraw explores the beauty in the mundane, drawing inspiration from literature, music, film, and personal history. Using improvisation to generate movement and build scenes, McGraw explores concepts of transformation and its nuanced relationship with time, memory, and stillness. “My work tends to be an overtly physical space,” writes McGraw, “where the artist can think, feel, choose, listen, react.” 

Fall ‘24 runs for six performances at the Erickson Theatre on Capitol Hill: September 13 -14 and 19 – 21 at 8 pm, with a special matinee on September 15th at 2 pm featuring host Betty Wetter.
