SUMMARY:Imaginary Observable
DESCRIPTION:Imaginary Observable is a split-bill performance featuring Leah Crosby’s piece The Marine Iguana\, and Alyza DelPan-Monley’s piece It’s About Time hosted at Mini Mart City Park in Georgetown\, Seattle (on unceded ancestral lands of the Coast Salish people.)\nThe Marine Iguana is a 30-minute performance that uses overhead projectors\, analogue image-making tools\, and experimental audio storytelling. It uses the adaptive and maladaptive traits of the marine iguana as a lens to explore misfit bodies\, social behavior\, and persistent friendly ghosts. \nIt’s About Time is a 30-minute performance that invites us into Alyza’s research with the concept of time: systemic measurement\, cultural significance\, permanence\, a lifetime\, watches\, rhythms and more. What will we discover? Only time will tell… In the same vein as their one-person show That’s a Handful!\, It’s About Time is formatted like a cross between a topical podcast and a children’s show. Audience members will have opportunities to participate\, tapping into the joy and grief of time when it flies.

SUMMARY:Ogemdi Ude: MAJOR
DESCRIPTION:Rooted in deep cultural memory and archival research\, six Black femmes channel the power and poetry of majorette dance in a fierce investigation of memory\, sensuality\, and pride.\nMAJOR is a dance theater project exploring the physicality\, history\, sociopolitics\, and interiority of majorette dance\, a form that originated in the American South within Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the 1960s. These Black femme teams\, accompanied by marching bands\, created a movement style that requires master showmanship with allegiance to count\, undulation\, groove\, and sensual yet strong performativity. \nIn MAJOR\, six Black femmes embrace majorette form—a fundamental relic of Black girlhood—to pursue the intimate journey of returning to bodies they thought lost. Experiments in improvised and verbatim language intertwine with a music score that integrates Southern rap\, horns\, drumlines\, and melodic R&B and soul by Lambkin. \nThe Chord Archive is showcased alongside performances\, a physical and digital documentation of the creative process\, and personal historical accounts from former majorette dancers. \nA fierce investigation of physical memory\, sexuality\, sensuality\, and community\, MAJOR is a nuanced love letter to the folks who taught the team how to be proudly Black and proudly femme.

SUMMARY:UW Dance Presents / Grad Lab Concert
DESCRIPTION:The inaugural Grad Lab Concert debuts an evening-length work co-created and performed by UW MFA candidates Jake Bone\, marco farroni leonardo\, Alice Gosti\, Jillian Roberts\, and Tracey Wong. Through five distinct artistic perspectives\, the piece weaves a vibrant tapestry of movement—exploring lineage\, experimentation\, and care. \n  \nAbout the Choreographers: \nJake Bone\, originally from Dallas\, Texas\, is a dance artist\, choreographer\, educator\, and arts administrator. He earned a BFA in Dance with honors from the University of North Texas\, where he performed works by Bebe Miller and Kihyoung Choi. Jake performed and taught nationally and abroad as a company member with Doug Varone and Dancers from 2015–2025. He also served as company manager and tour manager and has set Varone’s repertory at universities across the country. As a freelance artist\, he has worked with Bulareyaung Pagarlava\, the Metropolitan Opera\, among others. He is currently pursuing his MFA at the University of Washington. \nmarco farroni leonardo is a Dominican interdisciplinary artist based in Seattle\, Washington. Grounded in embodied research and community-based stories\, marco’s work explores themes of home\, the body as an archive\, the Black diaspora\, and memory. Their work has been presented at numerous cultural and performance venues across Seattle\, including Velocity Dance Center\, Wa Na Wari\, Base Arts Space\, 10 Degrees Arts\, Spectrum Dance Theater\, The AIDS Memorial Pathway\, River\, and 12th Ave Arts. marco is a member of Black Collectivity\, Wa Na Wari’s Seattle Black Spatial History Institute\, and is currently a MFA in Dance Candidate at The University of Washington. \nAlice Gosti is a transnational immigrant choreographer\, curator\, and hybrid performance artist who creates site-responsive rituals and live art installations exploring how history\, politics\, architecture\, and place shape the body. She often makes work under the name of MALACARNE. Born in Perugia\, Italy and raised by artist duo SANDFORD&GOSTI\, she has worked between Italy and occupied Duwamish and Coast Salish land (Seattle) since 2008. Alice is currently pursuing her Master’s degree. Her work views the body as a site of resistance\, a vessel for memory\, and a portal for transmutation—inviting audiences into spaces of poetic resistance\, collective dreaming\, and radical care. \nJillian Amadi Roberts is a certified dance educator\, choreographer\, and performing artist from Washington\, DC\, with a decade of experience teaching\, creating\, and performing in New York City. She holds a BA from Wesleyan University\, an MS from Touro College Graduate School of Education\, and is currently an MFA candidate and pre-doctoral instructor in the University of Washington’s Dance Department. Jillian has taught technique\, choreography\, and cultural foundations of Black American street and club dance forms at Mark Morris Dance Center\, Modega\, NXGN West New York\, House of Movement\, PMT\, and Peridance\, and created commissioned work for Applause Dance Theater\, Lakeside Academy of Dance\, RAW Artists\, Our Canvas\, and MOPTOP Crew’s 35th Anniversary Showcase. She served as Managing Director of Mint Dance Company for seven years and Foundations Judge for Prelude New York’s Junior and Adult Divisions in 2025. Jillian has conducted workshops and lectures at Dartmouth College\, Cornell University\, Princeton University\, Northeastern University\, University of Colorado Boulder\, University of California Riverside\, Prelude Dance Competition\, Billie\, and Netflix. \nTracey Wong is a Teochew-American interdisciplinary dance artist that lights up and inspires spaces through her art. She was born and raised in Seattle\, WA\, in the Beacon Hill neighborhood. Tracey’s global presence in the dance world is marked by her multiple hats as a competitor\, judge\, teacher\, choreographer\, and performer. Throughout the past decade\, she has won numerous national and international titles in competitions for Wh/aacking\, Open Styles\, and various categories in Ballroom\, such as Performance and Hands. She would not be here today without the support of her loved ones and elders that have paved the way.

SUMMARY:Whim W'Him: Winter '26 (Seattle)
DESCRIPTION:Whim W’Him opens the new year with a powerful winter program that reaffirms its place at the forefront of contemporary dance on the global stage. This program brings back three acclaimed choreographers who continue to help define the company’s artistic identity while expanding the reach of dance as a language of humanity. \nFLOCK\, the creative duo of Alice Klock and Florian Lochner\, reunites with Whim W’Him following their memorable pandemic-era dance film “NOVA”\, created for the company’s digital WHIM-IN platform. Their collaborative process\, rooted in trust\, empathy\, and intuition\, creates work known for its emotional clarity and fluid almost hypnotizing form. \nEmilie Leriche’s first piece for Whim W’Him\, “and if not\, not”\, offered a meditation on change that unfolded inward rather than forward. As she described\, “Sometimes a piece can represent a crossing… not in a from-here-to-there sort of way. But rather in its depth\, in its deconstruction… everything (even ourselves) is entirely changed.” Her new creation continues that journey\, an inward unfolding shaped by her quiet force and introspective power. \nOlivier Wevers\, founder and artistic director of Whim W’Him\, contributes a new creation rooted in his ongoing pursuit of connection\, truth\, and vulnerability. Known for his emotionally honest and visually striking choreography\, his work continues to offer a distinct vision of what dance can uncover in us and between us.

DESCRIPTION:crush 58 is a dance performance by kelly langeslay. it is the sixth crush and not the 58th. this is either plagiarism or an obscure reference that no one would ever understand without context because i am using it in a way that doesn’t make sense. if you come to the show i might tell you more about all that. \ncrush is a fantasy and i promise it is real. it has something to do with queer ghosts and the politics of shrek 2 and impact and maybe roland barthes. \nthere have been crushes before crush 58 and there will be crushes after crush 58 but none of the other crushes will happen here which i think makes this one special. if you have been to another crush there might be overlap because like i’ve mentioned to repeat may seem like to stay in the same place\, but staying in the same place with a difference\, such as by staying obstinately horizontal\, can\, in fact\, spur new lines of connections\, ways of being and resisting. Neither moving forward or backward\, it is through repetition that space and time for thinking sideways occurs ¹ . also some things will be new because as we repeat\, things accumulate and shift & these delusions start to come to life and grow of their own accord since i’ve been feeding them for so long. i will probably feed you too so please let me know your dietary restrictions when you buy a ticket.

SUMMARY:Jump/Cut: The Moving Body On Screen
DESCRIPTION:Jump/Cut is a three-weekend program curated by Jay Kuehner\, inviting audiences to Base on January 3\, 10\, and 17 at 7 PM. This moving image showcase explores varieties of kinesthetic cinema in historical and contemporary contexts. These works gesture toward new forms: of choreography released from time and space by the camera\, of cinema attuned to the exigencies of the body. \nJump/Cut is a part of Base’s pilot programming\, aiming to create more space for the creation and experiencing of multidisciplinary art. Arising organically from conversations with members of Seattle’s creative community\, Base hopes these programmatic experiments provide compelling creative opportunities while filling a gap in the local arts landscape. \nTickets available from $10 – $50.

SUMMARY:From Vivaldi's Venice to Leipzig: Bach's Italian Inspiration
DESCRIPTION:While Bach never left Germany\, his musical world was shaped by the vibrant sounds of Venice\, particularly through the works of Antonio Vivaldi. Bach studied many of Vivaldi’s works from the inside out\, making arrangements of Vivaldi concertos to suit his own musical purposes. Feel the chill and exhilaration of Vivaldi’s iconic “Winter” from The Four Seasons\, danced by Tshedzom Tingkhye\, Bri Wilson and Alejandro Frederickson in new choreography by Anna Mansbridge. The concert also features dazzling works for trumpet and strings\, featuring baroque trumpet virtuosa Kris Kwapis. Light up your New Year with this program exploring song\, dance and the enduring spirit of baroque Venice – La Serenissma – which so inspired Bach.
