SUMMARY:Bridge Project 2026
DESCRIPTION:New works by Miguel Almario\, Olivia Anderson\, Jessica Jobaris & General Magic\nThree brand new works and fresh takes\nBridge Project is Velocity’s Emerging Creative Incubator\, a multigenerational\, intensive process aimed at connecting artists to each other and audiences to dance artists. This year’s Bridge Project features the work of Miguel Almaria\, Olivia Anderson\, Jessica Jobaris after an intensive 5-week rehearsal process at 12th Ave Arts. As an audience member\, you will be invited to engage in a written feedback process that provides the choreographers with valuable information to help with their artist development. \nMiguel Almario | Working TItle: Hard Feelings\nHard Feelings is about cost.  The toll of belonging to a community built on community and competition\, or pushing a body past what it can give\, of choosing an art form that never stops asking for more. \nThe work aims to honor the Black and Brown American roots of street dance while challenging the way these forms are seen\, consumed\, and contained. Hard Feelings carries the weight of both community and confrontation\, and showcases the body as an archive: tracking years of physical pursuit. Every step adds interest. Every injury compounds debt. Through the eyes of an aging mover\, Hard Feelings examines the balance between respect and rivalry\, devotion and decay. \n  \nJessica Jobaris | Fucking Mercy\nRelentless\, irreverent\, and oddly hopeful\, Fucking Mercy\, doesn’t ask for forgiveness; it just wants to see if we can still look each other in the eye after the world’s gone feral. A social autopsy of cruelty\, performed in motion\, this trio becomes a crucible where the urge to dominate collides with the ache to belong. Mercy here isn’t some soft-focus virtue; it’s weaponized\, withheld\, begged for\, and occasionally\, miraculously\, offered. The dancers\, and audience\, stagger between the wretched and the sacred\, testing how much humanity can survive in a body that’s fighting to stay alive. \n  \nOlivia Anderson | Untitled New Work\nThis dance is rooted in improvisation—an act of listening\, surrender\, and response. For me\, movement begins not with choreography\, but with a need: a physical and spiritual need to express what lives inside the body. Dance is first a form of prayer\, a way to connect to self and spirit\, before it becomes performance. As fascism casts a shadow on our horizon\, I wonder: What can art do now? I believe it can do what it has always done—offer a space for resistance\, for remembering\, for rehumanizing. In this piece\, my body becomes both question and answer. Through breath\, emotion\, and embodied storytelling\, I seek to communicate in a language that bypasses intellect and speaks directly to the nervous system. In moving\, I hope to move something in you.

SUMMARY:"Taalam (Rhythm)": Bharatanatyam meets Tap Dance
DESCRIPTION:Powerful. Rhythmic. Hilarious. Breathtaking. Project Convergence is an extraordinary dance company that unites Indian dance and tap dance in an awe-inspiring display of rhythm! Described as “a standout” by the New York Times\, Project Convergence’s show Taalam (Rhythm) has played to a sold out 5\,000 person audience at Damrosch Park at Lincoln Center and the Citigroup Theatre at Alvin Ailey. Don’t miss your chance to see this electric\, goofy\, and explosive group! Learn more at www.projectconvergence.org \nTaalam (Rhythm) is a high energy jam between Bharatanatyam\, a traditional Indian percussive dance form\, and tap dance. Taalam (Rhythm) travels from 18th century India to 20th century New York\, from Dhanashree Thilanna to Take 5\, and creates a polyrhythm between the high-pitched bells on the feet of the Bharatanatyam dancers and the base-filled tones on the shoes of the tap dancer.  Taalam (Rhythm) delights audiences with how seamlessly African-American and South-Indian culture unite. In doing so\, it creates a euphoric celebration of the immigrant experience\, champions the universal power of rhythm. This project was supported\, in part\, by 4Culture

SUMMARY:Degenerate Art Ensemble: Anima Mundi
DESCRIPTION:Degenerate Art Ensemble and STG presents Anima Mundi\, a visually stunning avant-garde dance and live music work inspired by the realm of shadows and Japanese ghost stories\, Anima Mundiexplores the profound interconnection of all beings on our fragile planet. This poetic vision blends visceral embodied movement with innovative video projection and transforming sculptures that morph with the dancer’s body. The experience is heightened by live music featuring drums\, hypnotic electronics\, and a battery of acoustic sounds that fill the theater with vibrational energy. The work challenges human-centric perceptions\, proposing that by honoring our animal senses and rebalancing feminine and masculine forces\, we can foster more interdependent relationships with the natural world\, elevating the often-devalued qualities of healing\, mending\, and nurturing. Degenerate Art Ensemble’s performance is surreal\, visually heightened\, rebellious\, and defiant and has earned a faithful following of art obsessives\, activists\, and rebellious souls with their performances internationally.

SUMMARY:Rhythm & Rhyme: The Harlem Renaissance
DESCRIPTION:Rhythm & Rhyme is Noveltease Theatre’s cabaret series pairing burlesque\, poetry\, and live music. Each salon focuses on a different poetic movement or theme\, with a rotating cast of burlesque performers\, bands\, and featured poets to bring salacious sonnets\, ribald rhymes\, and comely cantos to life in an atmosphere of frivolity and intellectual curiosity. \nIn February\, we celebrate the history and legacy of the Harlem Renaissance with a cast that showcases Black excellence.

SUMMARY:Rose: You Are What You Eat
DESCRIPTION:A genre-defying musical shrine to queer identity and transformation invites us into an irreverent feast of gender\, memory\, and grief.\nOnce upon a vine\, Rose Jarboe’s aunt revealed that Rose not only had a twin sister in the womb\, but that she consumed her: “You ate her. That’s why you are the way you are.” This was a lot for Rose to swallow! In this musical shrine to the consumed twin\, Rose welcomes you into a feast of gender through song\, storytelling\, and a full plate of wordplay. \nCreated in partnership with the Bearded Ladies Cabaret. Featuring all original music written in collaboration with Emily Bate\, Rose Jarboe\, and Pax Ressler. \n“As queer folx\, however we identify\, we are always in dynamic tension between being who we are authentically and the tyranny of respectability: fitting in by making ourselves more palatable\, more recognizable to a cis-het society in order to get through the day\, escape harassment\, and for some of us\, just to survive. I don’t pass. I don’t fit into a clean\, commercialized narrative of transition. What I love about the story of Rose is that it is unmistakably disrespectful\, pretty tasteless\, and entirely me.”\n– Rose Jarboe \nContent Transparency\nThis performance includes themes of fetal mortality and growing up queer in Michigan in the 90s\, some graphic eating imagery\, and cannibal humor.

SUMMARY:Can You Bring It: Bill T. Jones and D-Man in the Waters
DESCRIPTION:his event will be held at UW Communications Building\, Room 120 Lecture Hall. Registration required. Reserve your spot \nJoin us for a feature documentary that traces the remarkable history and legacy of one of the most important works of art to come out of the age of AIDS –choreographer Bill T. Jones’s tour de force ballet “D-Man in the Waters.” There will be a post-screening discussion with Bill T. Jones and Berette S Macaulay. \nIn 1989\, D-Man in the Waters gave physical manifestation to the fear\, anger\, grief\, and hope for salvation that the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company felt as they were embattled by the AIDS pandemic. As a group of young dancers reconstructs the dance\, they learn about this oft forgotten history and deepen their understanding of the power of art in a time of plague. \nThis film screening is part of the Moving Life Film Series\, presented in partnership with the UW Simpson Center for the Humanities and the UW Department of Dance.

SUMMARY:Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company - Still/Here
DESCRIPTION:Thirty years after its historic premiere\, the groundbreaking dance theater work by Bill T. Jones returns to the stage. Created during the AIDS epidemic\, Still/Here shatters boundaries between the personal and the political\, exemplifying a form of dance theater that is uniquely American. At the heart of the piece are “survival workshops” Jones conducted with people living with life-threatening illnesses. The participants are the essence of the piece: their gestures inform the choreography\, their words the lyrics\, their images the stage; they will always be Still/Here\, and this work exists to honor their strength. \nHappens on the following Dates:\nFeb 26\, 2026\, 8:00pm to 10:00pm Timezone: PST\nFeb 27\, 2026\, 8:00pm to 10:00pm Timezone: PST\nFeb 28\, 2026\, 8:00pm to 10:00pm Timezone: PST

Six suspended prototype structures will be installed with incomplete skins\, emphasizing process rather than finished work. \nVisitors are invited to create small fabric pieces using prompts and a range of materials focused on memory and presence\, then attach them to the structures.
