This awe-inspiring repertory company of dancers ages 7 to 17 has dazzled audiences for 44 years as the resident company of the Creative Dance Center. The Gift of Dance concert shares a message of hope and togetherness by embracing the power of youth and dance and uniting us in the human experience of the arts. \nThis unique concert features choreography by renowned artists along with impressive pieces created by the dancers themselves. Collaborating in multi-age groups they take charge of the creative process\, composing work that is deeply personal yet universal in its appeal to audiences of all ages. This year we explore what a color can evoke – the emotions\, objects\, and sense of place. Witness how these talented dancers translate this idea into mesmerizing movement in a vibrant concert for all ages! \nKaleidoscope is the longest-running modern dance company in Seattle\, founded in 1981 by Anne Green Gilbert. The company was directed by Anna Mansbridge from 2014-2023 and is currently directed by Bronwen Gilbert Houck\, an alum of the company and daughter of the founder. Kaleidoscope has supported more than 250 young dancers and collaborated with hundreds of professional choreographers over its 44 years history\, as well as entertaining audiences across the US and worldwide. Kaleidoscope is based at the Creative Dance Center located in the historic Haller Lake Community Club in North Seattle.

DESCRIPTION:VAM Studios is pleased to present Fremont Holiday Flurry: “Fremont Freezes Over” (supported by the Fremont Arts Council)—a community celebration to ring in the holiday season. This free\, in-person event will take place on Saturday\, December 6th\, 2025 from 5:15–6:30pm and will start at 3526 Fremont Pl N. It will be an evening of street performances\, dance\, and caroling to coincide with the lighting of Fremont’s iconic Lenin statue. \nThis event will begin with street performances and live music by Silver Line Social and Kyleigh Taylor & Friends. This is in conjunction with the lighting of the Fremont Lenin statue\, which will feature a giant snowman head created by Pete Adelman. Following the lighting\, the procession of attendees will parade over to the parking lot at the corner of N 36th Street and Evanston Ave N for an outdoor dance theater experience including a “7-Minute Nutcracker” by VAM Studios’ resident company\, Suitcase Dance Theatre.

SUMMARY:Localities/An Odyssey Pt. 2
DESCRIPTION:Localities/An Odyssey is inspired by Donald Byrd’s unpublished memoir and charts a deeply personal and poetic journey through memory\, identity\, and artistic formation. More impressionistic than narrative\, the work unfolds as a series of choreographic vignettes—“islands” in a sea of recollection—that explore pivotal moments in Byrd’s life\, from his Jim Crow-era childhood in Florida to his experiences at elite academic institutions in the Northeast\, and the artistic crucibles of New York and Los Angeles. Performed by Spectrum Dance Theater company members\, the work weaves together abstract movement\, spoken memoir\, and music by composers ranging from J.S. Bach to contemporary percussion ensembles. Byrd’s narration—raw\, lyrical\, and emotionally unflinching—grounds the work in lived experience while allowing the dance to suggest a deeper\, more elusive truth. Rather than a straightforward autobiography\, Localities offers a meditation on ambition\, addiction\, alienation\, joy\, and longing. Byrd’s signature choreographic language—athletic\, rigorous\, and emotionally incisive—becomes a vehicle for self-examination\, remembrance\, and ultimately\, a search for meaning through the body in motion. \nLocalities/An Odyssey\, Pt. 1 marked the beginning of a larger project —a memoir-in-motion that defies conventional structure in favor of an episodic\, sensory\, and deeply human approach to storytelling. Pt. 2 continues the journey.

This awe-inspiring repertory company of dancers ages 7 to 17 has dazzled audiences for 44 years as the resident company of the Creative Dance Center. The Gift of Dance concert shares a message of hope and togetherness by embracing the power of youth and dance and uniting us in the human experience of the arts. \nThis unique concert features choreography by renowned artists along with impressive pieces created by the dancers themselves. DESCRIPTION:Localities/An Odyssey is inspired by Donald Byrd’s unpublished memoir and charts a deeply personal and poetic journey through memory\, identity\, and artistic formation. More impressionistic than narrative\, the work unfolds as a series of choreographic vignettes—“islands” in a sea of recollection—that explore pivotal moments in Byrd’s life\, from his Jim Crow-era childhood in Florida to his experiences at elite academic institutions in the Northeast\, and the artistic crucibles of New York and Los Angeles. Performed by Spectrum Dance Theater company members\, the work weaves together abstract movement\, spoken memoir\, and music by composers ranging from J.S. Bach to contemporary percussion ensembles. Byrd’s narration—raw\, lyrical\, and emotionally unflinching—grounds the work in lived experience while allowing the dance to suggest a deeper\, more elusive truth. Rather than a straightforward autobiography\, Localities offers a meditation on ambition\, addiction\, alienation\, joy\, and longing. Byrd’s signature choreographic language—athletic\, rigorous\, and emotionally incisive—becomes a vehicle for self-examination\, remembrance\, and ultimately\, a search for meaning through the body in motion. \nLocalities/An Odyssey\, Pt. 1 marked the beginning of a larger project —a memoir-in-motion that defies conventional structure in favor of an episodic\, sensory\, and deeply human approach to storytelling. Pt. 2 continues the journey.
