SUMMARY:PNB Ballet School: Momotaro
DESCRIPTION:Pacific Northwest Ballet is proud to present the world premiere of Jessica Lang’s Momotaro\, the newest addition to PNB’s series of narrated\, one-hour family-friendly ballets performed by students of the PNB School and designed especially for young audiences. (Momotaro does not feature PNB Company dancers.) Momotaro runs for three performances only\, March 21 and 28\, at Seattle Center’s Marion Oliver McCaw Hall. For tickets and information\, call the PNB Box Office at 206.441.2424\, or visit PNB.org. \n\nMomotaro (The Peach Boy) is considered Japan’s oldest folk tale. It was first written around the Edo period (1603-1868) but is thought to have been passed down for centuries before then\, with many different versions over time. PNB’s version of Momotaro\, adapted by Jessica Lang and Kanji Segawa\, brings this captivating tale to the ballet stage with a focus on themes of courage\, forgiveness\, and the power of family and friends. It tells the story of a boy who springs to life from a giant peach\, to the delight of the elderly couple who have longed for a child of their own. Momotaro eventually goes on a hero’s quest to find the ogres who have stolen from his family and neighbors. Along the way he befriends a dog\, a pheasant\, and a monkey who help him defeat the ogres and return the stolen treasures to their rightful homes. \n\nSensory-friendly Performance of Momotaro \nPNB is proud to present an inclusive\, sensory-friendly performance of Momotaro on Saturday\, March 28 at 12:30 pm. This performance will feature a supportive and welcoming environment so children and adults affected by autism or with other sensory needs can enjoy the shared experience of live ballet with their friends and family. Modified lighting and sound levels\, fidgets\, entry/exit privileges\, trained staff\, allowance of devices\, touch stations\, and a quiet room will be offered at this matinee. For more information on sensory-friendly performances visit PNB.org/accessibility. \n\nMomotaro Community Day \nPNB celebrates Japanese and Japanese American art\, dance\, and culture\, with a FREE\, interactive\, and family-friendly Momotaro Community Day on Saturday\, March 28 from 11:30 am to 3:30 pm. The event will include performances\, an artists’ market\, collaborative art and craft stations\, a panel discussion\, and more for the community and Momotaro ticketholders to enjoy before and between the performances. For details and more information\, visit PNB.org/blog/get-ready-for-momotaro-at-pnb.

SUMMARY:Echoes of Conscience
DESCRIPTION:Voices of the French resistance\nConcert Highlights: The spirit of Josephine Baker with chanteuse Jacqueline Tabor \nWorld Premiere Dance Commission\nDarius Milhaud\, La création du monde\nDonald Byrd\, Spectrum Dance Theater\n\n\nDarius Milhaud’s La Création du Monde was inspired by the composer’s trip to Harlem. For this daring ballet work\, he drew on a blend of jazz and classical idioms to imagine the creation of the world according to African myths. Few details remain of the original choreography\, but Music of Remembrance has commissioned Spectrum Dance Theater’s award-winning Donald Byrd to create a new dance score for this captivating work that evokes the experimental aura of Paris in the 1920s.\n  \nMilhaud was part of “Les Six\,” a group of six young French composers who shared a reaction to stylistic conventions of their day\, and sought clarity\, wit\, and modernity in their music. Several of them were active in the French resistance under Nazi occupation\, and our program features songs in which they and others dared to set eloquent poetic words of protest by banned authors like Louis Aragon and Paul Éluard. \nFew artists have fused art and activism as powerfully as Josephine Baker\, the legendary singer and dancer who escaped racism in America to become an icon of resistance and freedom in France. We feature chanteuse Jacqueline Tabor in a medley of songs that Baker made famous – songs of love\, liberty and an unshakable spirit. \nFeaturing:\nSpectrum Dance Theater \nGuest Artists:\nMichael Brockman\, saxophone\nJacqueline Tabor\, chanteuse\nOsama Afifi\, double bass\nJohn Hansen\, piano\nRosamund Dyer\, mezzo-soprano \n2025 David Tonkonogui Memorial Award recipient:\nTom Wang\, clarinet \nMusic of Remembrance Ensemble:\nLaura DeLuca\, clarinet; Mikhail Shmidt\, violin; Natasha Bazhanov\, violin\nSusan Gulkis Assadi\, viola; Walter Gray\, cello; Cristina Valdes\, piano

SUMMARY:The Harsh Art of Unanchoring
DESCRIPTION:Equipoise Dance returns with its Season 2 concert\, “The Harsh Art of Unanchoring” — an evening of contemporary dance rooted in authentic human connection\, reflection\, and shared physical inquiry. \nPerformed by company artists Anneka Parr\, Bethany Lynch\, Emma Neilson\, Lauran Drackett\, and Melissa Koh Krienke\, this program emerges from a journey into the subconscious\, asking: What are we carrying that no longer serves us? What holds us in place\, limiting forward motion? And what might become possible if we loosen our grip — allowing weight to lift\, shift\, or fall away entirely? These questions are embodied through distinct movement voices\, each dancer drawing from personal experience — informing both an intimate duet performed by directors Heather Smith and Samantha Weissbach and the full-company work “and there I was”. \nBetween these works sits “Hi\, I’m a mother”\, a piece shaped through the lived experience of six dynamic guest artists\, each sharing intimate realities of their relationship with motherhood and how it reshapes identity\, purpose\, and the body at its core. \n“The Harsh Art of Unanchoring” invites audiences into an immersive evening of movement and storytelling — where powerful physicality\, shared vulnerability\, and moments of release offer both an engaging performance and space for personal reflection.

SUMMARY:Back to Source: A transformative portal of sound\, movement\, and art
DESCRIPTION:After more than a decade behind the scenes in the music industry\, multidisciplinary Filipino American artist Michele Wylen returns to the stage with a groundbreaking\, genre-defying performance experience that fuses live music\, cinematic visuals\, and immersive dance. Presented in collaboration with the Seattle International Dance Festival (SIDF)\, this event marks Wylen’s long-awaited comeback—an experiential journey that transcends the boundaries of a traditional concert. Anchoring the evening’s flow would be roaming\, site-specific\, and choreographed dance works by Khambatta Dance Company and other leading Seattle-based dance artists. Their presence would transform the venue into a living gallery\, where bodies in motion echo the emotional terrain of Wylen’s music and visuals. Together\, these artists would create a dynamic interplay of rhythm\, space\, and story—blurring the lines between audience and performer. The immersive experience would debut Wylen’s arthouse music video\, Black Sheep—her most ambitious visual work to date—merging raw autobiographical storytelling with surreal\, thought-provoking imagery. This performance is designed not merely to entertain\, but to activate: awakening audiences into deeper layers of self- expression\, connection\, and empowerment.

SUMMARY:The Bonnies: I'm on Fire\, You're on Fire\, We're on Fire
DESCRIPTION:Seattle performance duo The Bonnies (Kaitlin McCarthy and Jenny Peterson) merge their decade of comedy dance experience with their “more serious” art practice to debut an evening length joyride of grotesque femininity\, experimental indulgence\, and the intimacy of a friendship 15 years in the making.  \nInspired by the beloved absurdist 1966 Czech New Wave film\, Daisies\, The Bonnies harness their perceived femininity–the silly\, slutty\, trivial\, and excessive–to craft a world where fantasies can play out on a larger-than-life scale: a candy-colored universe of impulse and freewheeling femme chaos. In a collision of eras\, The Bonnies pull from 60s cinema\, Bruce Springsteen’s catalogue\, the cultural phenomenon surrounding Lorena Bobbitt\, and Jenny and Kaitlin’s fantasy bedroom dances–both adolescent and contemporary. Working their way towards euphoria–and the inevitable crash down–The Bonnies (and their rainbow monster puppet alter egos) teeter between vision and delusion\, manifesting a shared destiny built from queer platonic love.  \nThe sound score by Jenny includes subversive covers of nostalgic classics (both 90s club anthems and road trip sing-alongs) side-by-side with sweeping original compositions in synth\, piano\, and voice. Riding the edge of parody into sincerity\, a collection of cultural references collide into something entirely new.  \nVisual design by Kaitlin manifests inside a fully operational set (by Teia O’Malley)\, a color-pop homage to both Věra Chytilová‘s saccharine-hued Daisies and an ecstatic obsession with texture. Two ornately handcrafted wearable art pieces distill the visual ethos into two characters of pure fantasy played by dancers Hendri Wa and Jackson Knappen.  \nAn interdisciplinary escapade through wild imagination\, I’m on Fire\, You’re on Fire\, We’re on Fire grapples with the morally complex territory of fantasy\, violence\, and vulnerability of desire\, cloaked as a ditzy comedy routine.

SUMMARY:Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company - Still/Here
DESCRIPTION:Thirty years after its historic premiere\, the groundbreaking dance theater work by Bill T. Jones returns to the stage. Created during the AIDS epidemic\, Still/Here shatters boundaries between the personal and the political\, exemplifying a form of dance theater that is uniquely American. At the heart of the piece are “survival workshops” Jones conducted with people living with life-threatening illnesses. The participants are the essence of the piece: their gestures inform the choreography\, their words the lyrics\, their images the stage; they will always be Still/Here\, and this work exists to honor their strength. \nHappens on the following Dates:\nFeb 26\, 2026\, 8:00pm to 10:00pm Timezone: PST\nFeb 27\, 2026\, 8:00pm to 10:00pm Timezone: PST\nFeb 28\, 2026\, 8:00pm to 10:00pm Timezone: PST
