SUMMARY:HeapRide: Freeway Park
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a pre-ride event from 1-2pm at Freeway Park’s James R. and Mary Lou Ellis Plaza. Get a coffee\, come and go as you please\, and watch performances pop-up around Freeway Park’s Convention Center Plaza. There will be a 10min group performance at 2pm to send off the group bike ride! \nHeap Troupe\, a Seattle-based performance troupe co-founded by Kara Beadle\, Andy Zacek\, and several collaborators\, are excited to announce the first large-scale performance experience\, HeapRide. HeapRide is a series of three 3-hour guided group bicycle ride featuring pop-up performances along the routes and stationary performances at Tailwind Café and Freeway Park. \nBecause dance and bicycling are both powerful mediums of social change\, Heap uses movement\, costumes\, and sound–shaped by their experiences as bicyclists–to spark conversation about our city’s efforts toward making alternative forms of transport more accessible\, while critiquing the continued predominance of car usage. \nThis event is presented by Kara Beadle who is a City Artist Grant recipient funded by the City of Seattle Office of Arts & Culture. This project is fiscally sponsored by Velocity Dance Center.

SUMMARY:Base Residency Entry Point: Stasia Coup/Artie Thomas
DESCRIPTION:Come to Base and see our fourth ’25-’26 Resident Artist\, Seattle drag artist\, Stasia Coup! \nPlease join us Saturday\, May 16\, at 7:00 PM for local Seattle drag icon Stasia Coup/Artie Thomas! \nHis Entry Point will explore an altar-like installation of mementos\, audio recordings\, and writings\, culminating in an intimate live performance from Stasia/Artie. Base is delighted to support Stasia/Artie in his deep state of inquiry with time\, space\, and organizational support. The event begins at 7:00 PM with a live Performance at 7:30 PM. \nLearn more about Stasia Coup/Artie Thomas on our website\, thisisbase.org. \nAbout Entry Points\nEntry Points are opportunities for our Resident artists to share their process. They may take the form of a showing\, a conversation\, or another expression of the artist’s imagination. It’s an opportunity for the community to engage with the deep dives the artists undertook during their Residency and\, possibly\, discover a new artist or deepen their connection to an artist they support. \nAbout the Base Residency\nThe Base Residency program is an artist-curated program that provides resident artists with 24/7 access to Base for two weeks of development\, self-challenge\, and experimentation. The 2025-2026 program supports three Seattle-based artists/duos and three artists/duos outside the greater Seattle area with a suite of resources\, including unrestricted space\, technical\, marketing\, and administrative support\, a financial stipend\, and travel and housing for out-of-town artists. Each residency wraps with an Entry Point\, a public event that invites the community into Base to witness and connect with the resident artists. The 2025-2026 program was curated by Parisa Ghaderi\, Joseph Hernandez\, and Keyes Wiley. Since 2016\, more than 35 artists have completed Base Residencies as the program continues to evolve and grow within a national context. Meet Base Residency Alumni here. \nSupport for Base\nFlourish is a three-year fundraising campaign leveraging community support to grow and expand in response to local\, regional\, and national demand. Flourish is generating $300\,000 over three years to support three areas of growth: increased artist residencies\, a more robust staff\, and new\, community-facing programs. Learn more about Flourish here. \nAccessibility + Directions \nBase is an ADA-compliant\, accessible space on the ground floor\, with all-gender and wheelchair-accessible restrooms. More on accessibility at Base here. \nAny additional accessibility needs/requests for the show? Reach out to aaron@thisisbase.org \nInterested in volunteering in exchange for a free ticket and free space at Base? Reach out to akoiya@thisisbase.org

SUMMARY:Fauxnique: How Do I Look?
DESCRIPTION:Fauxnique wields a provocative\, wry framework of drag\, dance\, and philosophy to confront identity\, femininity\, and self-image.\nHow Do I Look? is the latest work from Monique Jenkinson/Fauxnique\, the multifaceted artist\, choreographer\, writer\, and performer best known as the first cisgender woman anywhere\, ever to be crowned as a pageant-winning drag queen. With her rigorous ballet training buried in the bottom of her artistic toolbox\, Jenkinson emerged out of a feminist\, postmodern\, improvisational dance lineage and into the nightclub scene. There\, she fashioned Fauxnique in a laboratory of liberatory radical queer performance\, reclaiming ballet and learning to use drag and theory as modes of inquiry and entertainment. Jenkinson brings this fluency to this latest work. \nNow she dons her drag queen guise and wields her unique combination of precise physicality\, irreverent humor\, and gutsy vulnerability to ask the most vain\, mundane\, and loaded question: How Do I Look? With it\, she digs past glossy platitudes and flattering exaggerations into the hot mess of perception\, subjectivity\, identity\, and taste. How Do I Look? throws itself into the space—sometimes a chasm—between how we see ourselves and how the world sees us. As always\, Jenkinson’s work resists dogmatic answers and leans into philosophical modes of questioning\, considering the methodology of looking: by what means do we see the world and each other? By what means other than looking might we perceive each other\, art (especially works of art like this one)\, and the world? \nPart roast\, part dance\, part drag\, part stand-up\, part performance art\, this piece delves into an extreme close-up of the self. How Do I Look? poses a question that generates more questions—can I train myself to look without flinching\, without cringing? Can self-knowledge help me to know others? If I roast myself\, will you like me more? Is it even possible to roast myself? Do I really want to know?

SUMMARY:Whim W'Him Spring '26
DESCRIPTION:featuring new creations by \n\n\nRena Butler\, James Gregg\, Olivier Wevers \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMAY 8 – 16\, 2026 @ 8:00 PM | Cornish Playhouse\nMAY 14\, 2026 @ 7:30 PM | Vashon Center for the Arts \n  \n\n\nAs the season comes to a close\, we welcome back three visionary choreographers whose previous works have left lasting impressions on the company and its audiences. This spring\, they return with new creations that push boundaries and invite reflection. \nRena Butler brings a new work following her powerful 2020 dance film\, “E=16-0163-TSX”\, originally created during the pandemic on our WHIM-IN platform. She describes her new work as an exploration of dissecting the self and our shared humanity – how breaking ourselves down reveals the ways we reflect and intersect with one another. Her choreography invites us into this humbling\, intricate process of self and communal discovery. \nJames Gregg\, who first captivated Whim W’Him audiences in 2016 with his duet “Into you I go willingly”\, returns to build on his bold and physical artistry. His latest creation promises the same intricate\, emotionally charged movement but elevated by a decade of research and exploration. \nArtistic Director Olivier Wevers offers a new creation that continues his ongoing investigation into human expression\, connection\, and transformation. His choreography continues to engage performers and audiences with meaningful queries and his ever-involving partnering exploration. \nJoin us for this powerful closing chapter of the season where dance becomes a space for reflection\, relationship\, and renewal.

SUMMARY:Dance Theatre Seattle: rep two
DESCRIPTION:Dance Theatre Seattle has been hard at work in the studios\, shaping rep two\, three ballets that reflect both where we have been and where we are going. The program brings a restaging of BRIGHT YOUNG THINGS\, alongside two world premieres: Coping Mechanisms and lowleveljoy. All three works are choreographed by Joshua Grant\, each one exploring a different facet of resilience\, memory\, and self-discovery. \nWe open the program with BRIGHT YOUNG THINGS. Born in the stillness of the pandemic\, when isolation sharpened our sense of self\, the work turns us toward the mirror. Toward the person standing there—and no one else. In that confrontation we find resolve. BRIGHT YOUNG THINGS erupts as a battle cry: fierce\, unapologetic\, unguarded. A declaration of power in standing firm. A call to trust the pulse of who we are at our most authentic. \nFrom there we enter Coping Mechanisms. Guided by eight of Paganini’s virtuosic 24 Caprices\, the music moves like a nervous system; alive with urgency\, instinct\, and momentum. Echoes of the stark “black-and-white” ballets of the 1940s through the 1970s flicker through the work: form stripped bare\, emotion laid open. We pass through the landscapes of youth and memory—through angst\, ecstasy\, rebellion\, and yearning—drawing from what shaped us. What we once knew becomes a tool\, a language carried forward\, allowing us to confront the present and move through it. \nTo close the program\, lowleveljoy invites us inward. Here the journey is quieter\, more intimate. Movement becomes touch\, texture\, breath. A hand across space\, the weight of a body\, the steady rhythm of a heart beating within the dark. It is a meditation on loving oneself—on sensing rather than seeing. Because perhaps we never fully witness what unfolds in the moment. Perhaps we only recognize it afterward\, in the lingering sensation it leaves behind. \n—three works\, three worlds\, and a shared moment at Dance Theatre Seattle.
