SUMMARY:Cornish Dance Theatre (CDT)
DESCRIPTION:Cornish Dance Theater is produced by the Dance Department each semester and features professional dance works by current faculty and visiting guest artists. \nSpring Choreographers for 2025: \nHilary Grumman & Alethea Alexander (AKA: UNDERCURRENT): Cornish Dance Faculty \nTracey Wong: Guest Artist \nAmy O’ Neal: Guest Artist in Residence \n***Please note that Cornish College of the Arts utilizes Theatrical haze and fog for many productions. If atmospheric elements are a part of a production’s design\, there will be two performances without the use of Haze and Fog. Those performances will be publicized in advance. \nAlethea Alexander is a Seattle-based dance artist and educator. Community\, sensuality\, care\, effort\, subversion and collaboration are central tenets of her creative work with dance partners human\, object\, site and sonic. \nHilary Grumman is a Seattle-based artist\, educator\, and community organizer. Drawing on training with international practitioners\, and 12 years of personal floorwork research\, she directs Undercurrent\, a dance company nurturing floorwork technique\, experiential design\, multi-media performance\, and care-centered community building since 2017. \nTracey Wong 黃麗塋 (she/her) is a queer Teochew-American interdisciplinary dance artist that lights up and inspires spaces through her art. She was born and raised in Seattle\, WA in the Beacon Hill neighborhood\, raised by her loving parents who were refugees from Vietnam. One of her purposes is to help us remember to play\, connect with our intuition\, and for our bodies to genuinely express to heal and to connect to our humanity. \nAmy O’Neal is a dancer\, choreographer\, curator\, and dance educator merging contemporary and street dance since 2000 to challenge notions of race\, gender\, and the sampling nature of innovation. She creates for concert dance\, experimental performance\, dance film\, music video\, and virtual reality and has toured eight acclaimed evening length works nationally and internationally.

SUMMARY:Cornish Dance Theater
DESCRIPTION:Two Seattle Dance visionaries\, Heather Kravas and Tonya Lockyer\, are in residence with Cornish Dance Theater students this fall experimenting with patterns of movement and energy in Cornish’s 9th Avenue Gallery.\nKravas’s Be Sides\, two discreet dances unfold in time and space\, to be contemplated simultaneously by the performers and audience. Like weather systems across a vast expanse\, the improvised and choreographed structures feature anomalous shapes\, and ecstatic pony prances. \nIn Lockyer’s performance\, co-created with Cornish Dance students\, a web of interconnectedness reflects performance histories and how a small change can make a world of difference. Energetic patterns meet ghosts of Beckett\, Bruce Nauman\, hip hop and performance dance.
