SUMMARY:Dark Leaves Disintegration in Four Parts
DESCRIPTION:Saturdays\, March 1st\, 8th\, 15th\n7:00 pm\nStudio Ma \nSaturday\, March 22nd\nCarkeek Park\n*6:30pm\n(Please RSVP at the link; location details for this final performance will be sent to RSVPs before the date) \nDancer and installation artist Katrina Wolfe will present a new performance in four parts. This series will feature an expansive installation made from recycled paper\, mirrors\, and the suspended branches of vine maple\, purple smoke\, and red-leaf cherry trees. Over the course of four weeks\, the installation will be altered during and between each performance\, creating a new visual experience as the piece progresses. \nSound artists Michael Shannon and David Stanford will enhance the transformation and eventual deconstruction of the installation by creating a distinctly unique soundscape for each evening of the performance series. Katrina’s movement will be a holistic and open response to her tactile interaction with the environment: from the sounds created by Micheal and David to the sounds of the materials themselves and to the energy of the audience. \nThe site-specific\, final performance of the series will be in celebration of the Spring Equinox\, and will incorporate what remains of the installation with the elements of fire\, water\, wind\, and earth.

SUMMARY:Birth and the Accumulation and Disintegration of Memory
DESCRIPTION:Doors at 7:00pm\nShow at 7:30pm\nFollowed by a celebration for two birthdays\nPlease RSVP at https://maarts.org/rsvp (space is limited) \nBirth and the Accumulation and Disintegration of Memory is a new performance/installation work by dancer/visual artist Katrina Wolfe. Katrina conceived the idea for this piece many years ago. It began as many of her ideas do—she simply envisioned the physical elements she would use. Instead of incorporating the organic materials that she often uses in her work\, Katrina imagined using a collection of childhood toys\, including a large wooden rocking horse that her mother and father made for her fifth birthday. The installation will also include two handmade suspended garments that she has been transforming over the past several years. Through her dynamic butoh movements and interaction with the installation\, Katrina will tell a story that illustrates the various stages of life one experiences\, from the innocence and beauty of childhood to the trauma accumulated in these early years that can continue to haunt us and influence our life choices. She will show how we can ultimately release the oppressive weight of living in a disharmonious way and start moving toward a more whole and peaceful state of existence. Katrina is developing this piece in collaboration with her mother\, Kawtee Wolfe\, who will create a live soundscape to accompany the unfolding narrative.
