SUMMARY:Degenerate Art Ensemble: Anima Mundi
DESCRIPTION:Degenerate Art Ensemble and STG presents Anima Mundi\, a visually stunning avant-garde dance and live music work inspired by the realm of shadows and Japanese ghost stories\, Anima Mundiexplores the profound interconnection of all beings on our fragile planet. This poetic vision blends visceral embodied movement with innovative video projection and transforming sculptures that morph with the dancer’s body. The experience is heightened by live music featuring drums\, hypnotic electronics\, and a battery of acoustic sounds that fill the theater with vibrational energy. The work challenges human-centric perceptions\, proposing that by honoring our animal senses and rebalancing feminine and masculine forces\, we can foster more interdependent relationships with the natural world\, elevating the often-devalued qualities of healing\, mending\, and nurturing. Degenerate Art Ensemble’s performance is surreal\, visually heightened\, rebellious\, and defiant and has earned a faithful following of art obsessives\, activists\, and rebellious souls with their performances internationally.

SUMMARY:zoe | juniper + Xiu Xiu
DESCRIPTION:Untitled\, a new collaboration between zoe | juniper and punk band  Xiu Xiu\, is a dance and live music performance created with dramaturge Mikhaela Mahony\, choreography by Zoe Scofield\, text by Dahlak Brathwaite\, costumes by Kaye Voyce\, video projection design by Juniper Shuey\, puppets by Joe Seely and four stellar dancers. Untitled is inspired by Zoe’s experience of being falsely accused of sexual misconduct while simultaneously being a survivor of sexual assault. The injustice of being wrongfully accused of sexual harassment sits in stark contrast to the lack of prosecution of sexual perpetrators and the justice that is often not received. \n zj and Xiu Xiu examine the Crucible\, the reversal of Roe vs Wade\, the backlash against the MeToo movement\, the insidiousness of patriarchy\, and Jordan Peele’s horror films\, performed live by XX and dancers on a sculptural set. Peele’s film and T.V. work turns racism into physical horror and like a monster in a horror film\, the patriarchy mutates to survive. SUMMARY:Bailadores de Bronce
DESCRIPTION:STG is celebrating Latinx/Hispanic Heritage month with local ballet folklorico dance troupe\, Bailadores De Bronce with a special Dia de los Muertos presentation. This performance will showcase traditional dances from Mexico featuring dancers from throughout Washington. Join us for the celebration! \nBailadores de Bronce promotes the beauty and richness of Mexican traditions through music and dance in the Pacific Northwest. They create a bridge of understanding among all people by sharing their culture\, preserving our traditions and instilling pride in our youth. \nIn 1972\, a group of students at the University of Washington\, led by Josefina Jaramillo Alvarez\, united in a common goal to demonstrate their pride in their Mexican heritage through music and dance. They questioned the lack of a Mexican dance group at the UW. In many ways it was a product of the Civil Rights and Chicano movements.
