Action Theater Fundamentals
Even during uncertain times, we can crack the confines of outdated habits and tune in more gently to what needs to unfold, guided by the wisdom of body-centered practices. Improvisation strengthens the channel connecting the body and the imagination, moving us out past the normal, the expected – into wilder territories beyond.
In this two-day workshop, we’ll immerse ourselves in the core principles of the Action Theater improvisation method, exploring multiple entry points into movement, vocalization, and speech.
Action Theater is an improvisation method created by Ruth Zaporah. Through a vast catalog of exercises, it builds an elegant and pragmatic toolset for the improviser to refine awareness, choice, and articulation.
It is especially useful for dancers exploring vocal expression and text in performance, performance ensembles refining group composition, and actors and artists of all disciplines seeking to further inhabit and discover information from within the body.
While attending both days offers the most complete experience, you’re welcome to join on Saturday only if you’re unable to attend both sessions.
