Ballet Rituals – Tuesday class
Ballet Rituals is a dynamic class designed to help contemporary movers revel in what the structure of ballet has to offer their dancing and shed what isn’t needed. Pop-indie playlists underpin the ritual and rhythm of ballet shapes and pathways and help to root us in togetherness and joy. Tuesday class begins with a Pilates-based warm up on the floor before building to standing barre and center phrases. Barre sequences on Tuesdays are ritualistic and repeated, so you can expect to dance the same sequences week to week, allowing for a deeper investigation and rich familiarity.
We’ll indulge in and subvert the familiarity of form through creative pathways, anatomical clarity, and collective practice. We’ll play and laugh our way through two hours of experiencing ballet as a ritual, in community.
We are firm believers that ballet looks different in each body and we actively encourage individual choice-making towards what your body needs. While we honor the practice of ballet, we reject hierarchy, patriarchy, silence, authoritarianism, and alienation wherever possible.
