This April Underscore will continue as a dedication to Steve Paxton. I worked with Steve Paxton at the very birth of Contact Improvisation and will bring to you my memory of our early work together and with Nancy Stark Smith, Curt Siddall, Danny Lepkoff, and Lisa Nelson in our earliest explorations and performances of the form. I will give a very short talk about that beginning from 1972, and will then begin us all with a stand which recalls the imagery of those early days. We will practice some of the movement scores that help to set contact improvisation up, move through some of the progression of modes of thinking and moving that unfolded in subsequent years, and resolve our movement concerns with scores from our current Contact moment. The Underscore will immediately follow upon this movement history, to unfold as Nancy designed it.
