SUMMARY:KEEPING
DESCRIPTION:BLUE SCREEN invites you to experience KEEPING\, an evening length dance work that will happen at 12th Ave Arts. We want to spend this time with you because the dance we made is about you and it would make more sense if you were there. \nWe are excited to really lean in and get down to business (dance business). We hope that the experience is a little scary\, a little funny\, a little sad\, and mostly interesting. The art we make is the kind of art that keeps your experience in mind without being too clear about what any of it means. We try not to be condescending\, pretentious\, or difficult to understand\, though we are dancemakers so our hands are kind of tied. Uou can always tell us after if you feel like you need more information about all the stuff you’ve seen. \nThe important thing is that you show up because\, like we said above\, the dance is about you and it would be pretty weird if you weren’t there. \nFeaturing: \nNia-Amina Minor\nBarret Anspach*\nShane Donohue\nJoseph Hernandez** \n*Composer\n**Blue Screen is the organization of creatives helmed by choreographer Joseph Hernandez in collaboration with many of his loved ones.

SUMMARY:The Bonnies: I'm on Fire\, You're on Fire\, We're on Fire
DESCRIPTION:Seattle performance duo The Bonnies (Kaitlin McCarthy and Jenny Peterson) merge their decade of comedy dance experience with their “more serious” art practice to debut an evening length joyride of grotesque femininity\, experimental indulgence\, and the intimacy of a friendship 15 years in the making.  \nInspired by the beloved absurdist 1966 Czech New Wave film\, Daisies\, The Bonnies harness their perceived femininity–the silly\, slutty\, trivial\, and excessive–to craft a world where fantasies can play out on a larger-than-life scale: a candy-colored universe of impulse and freewheeling femme chaos. In a collision of eras\, The Bonnies pull from 60s cinema\, Bruce Springsteen’s catalogue\, the cultural phenomenon surrounding Lorena Bobbitt\, and Jenny and Kaitlin’s fantasy bedroom dances–both adolescent and contemporary. Working their way towards euphoria–and the inevitable crash down–The Bonnies (and their rainbow monster puppet alter egos) teeter between vision and delusion\, manifesting a shared destiny built from queer platonic love.  \nThe sound score by Jenny includes subversive covers of nostalgic classics (both 90s club anthems and road trip sing-alongs) side-by-side with sweeping original compositions in synth\, piano\, and voice. Riding the edge of parody into sincerity\, a collection of cultural references collide into something entirely new.  \nVisual design by Kaitlin manifests inside a fully operational set (by Teia O’Malley)\, a color-pop homage to both Věra Chytilová‘s saccharine-hued Daisies and an ecstatic obsession with texture. Two ornately handcrafted wearable art pieces distill the visual ethos into two characters of pure fantasy played by dancers Hendri Wa and Jackson Knappen.  \nAn interdisciplinary escapade through wild imagination\, I’m on Fire\, You’re on Fire\, We’re on Fire grapples with the morally complex territory of fantasy\, violence\, and vulnerability of desire\, cloaked as a ditzy comedy routine.

SUMMARY:Drama Tops: DADS
DESCRIPTION:Washington Ensemble Theatre Presents \nDADS \nCreated by Drama Tops \nDates: April 24 – May 3\, 2025 \nLocation: 12th Ave Arts Mainstage \nDrama Tops’ newest Queer Tragedy\, “DADS\,” is a holesome\, sci-fi dreamscape about fatherhood that is guaranteed to blow your mind and stick with you for years. \n\nIn “DADS”\, Elby and Shane are confronted with the largest demon they have yet to face\, their purpose. They dive head first into the chaotic waters of grief\, and loss\, as they sift through the sands of death and distance on the shores of masculinity. They bump. They grind. They fail to procreate. \n\nSo\, slap on your leather\, steal Daddy’s credit card\, and buy tickets to “DADS” presented by Washington Ensemble Theatre.\n\nImage by Erin O’Reilly

This deeply existential and heartfelt dance odyssey between two platonic lovers interrogates queer culture and Elby and Shane’s relationships to their fathers\, all while trying to figure out their role in making the world a better place. \n\n\nThey grip each other as they gasp for air.

SUMMARY:Keyes Wiley and the NOGOODDOERS: Once Upon A Time in a Place Called NOWhere
DESCRIPTION:Seattle icon Keyes Wiley is back with an all new piece and a stellar cast of collaborators! Be sure not to miss this wildly inventive and emotively human work\, presented on Capitol Hill in the spring of 2025. This piece is presented through Made In Seattle\, Velocity’s Nationally Emerging Creative Incubator.\nAbout their new work\, Wiley says: \n“In creating Once Upon A Time in a Place Called NOWhere we will lean into surrealism and mundanity as a response to our current world of chaos and hyper stimulation. \nI’ve invited 7 people/friends/confidants over for a game night but these games\, though familiar\, are representative of worldly conflicts. The NoGoodDoers will take to action preparing\, questioning and playing games in attempt to save the world. \nExisting somewhere between dance and theater\, lip syncs and spoken word\, performance art and performance happenings\, Keyes and the NoGoodDoers place us in a world similar to our own; proceeding to fail at a task that we all crave to achieve”.

SUMMARY:BLUE SCREEN: GOOD BOY\, Tomorrow Belongs To Me
DESCRIPTION:BLUE SCREEN will take over 12th ave Arts for something they’ve been dreaming about for a long time.  Good Boy is an anti-fascist performance directed by Joseph Hernandez with Barret Anspach and Coral Grief.  This contemporary dance event is a show that leans in.  What does it mean to meet the moment? Is it possible? How can we avoid capitulating to cynics\, capitalism\, virtue signaling\, consumption\, platitudes\, and emptiness.  The show is queer\, angry\, tender\, and is trying its best to be brave. \nBLUE SCREEN is the latest iteration of the work of artist Joseph Hernandez.  Hernandez has acted as a choreographer  dancer\,  writer\, curator\, educator\, and persona non grata in some of the world’s most famoust institutions and least famous internet circles.  He comes from Germany but now lives in Seattle\, WA – where he hopes to  adopt a dog and find some meaning in creation again. He took a break from making dance (or making art of any kind for that matter) because he got tired.  (He got tired of making work for dance companies that treat their employees like cattle and who cling to the past because they are greedy and scared.).  Art is one of his biggest loves and he is excited to be making it on his terms.  BLUE SCREEN is where you will find collaborations\, events\, essays\, and baseball caps with pithy slogans.  BLUE SCREEN is amorphously organised public forum where he intends to enlist a lot of people he loves to display their grief\, growth and resilience alongsinde his own.
