SUMMARY:"Taalam (Rhythm)": Bharatanatyam meets Tap Dance
DESCRIPTION:Powerful. Rhythmic. Hilarious. Breathtaking. Project Convergence is an extraordinary dance company that unites Indian dance and tap dance in an awe-inspiring display of rhythm! Described as “a standout” by the New York Times\, Project Convergence’s show Taalam (Rhythm) has played to a sold out 5\,000 person audience at Damrosch Park at Lincoln Center and the Citigroup Theatre at Alvin Ailey. Don’t miss your chance to see this electric\, goofy\, and explosive group! Learn more at www.projectconvergence.org \nTaalam (Rhythm) is a high energy jam between Bharatanatyam\, a traditional Indian percussive dance form\, and tap dance. Taalam (Rhythm) travels from 18th century India to 20th century New York\, from Dhanashree Thilanna to Take 5\, and creates a polyrhythm between the high-pitched bells on the feet of the Bharatanatyam dancers and the base-filled tones on the shoes of the tap dancer.  Taalam (Rhythm) delights audiences with how seamlessly African-American and South-Indian culture unite. In doing so\, it creates a euphoric celebration of the immigrant experience\, champions the universal power of rhythm. This project was supported\, in part\, by 4Culture

SUMMARY:Seattle City Nutcracker
DESCRIPTION:DASSdance’s modern day Nutcracker returns to the stage inspiring a new generation with a flying LED lit mechanical doll\, AI Robots in the battle scene illuminated in black light and an authentic journey through the Land of the Sweets. \nPremiered in 2019\, Seattle City Nutcracker is an unabashedly contemporary production showcasing Wilkins’ athletic All-Terrain melding of jazz\, ballet\, modern and acrobatics as well as tap and high flying aerial. A true reflection of local flavor from the perspective of Clara and Maria raised by their uncles the “Dros Bros.” at their Fix-It shop in the Central District. The “neighborhood kids” join the fun and face challenges as the story unfolds. Clara and Maria travel through The Land of the Sweets spanning across the globe from Ukraine to India with African Flowers choreographed by Koach “Giggz” Crosby and danced by Kutt’N’Up.

SUMMARY:Initiation: A journey of Des- and Re- Integration through the Flamenco Arts
DESCRIPTION:Flamenco music and dance collide with light\, color and sound for an immersive and imaginative retelling of the myth of the Descent of Inanna. \nHuman history is rich with stories\, myths and images about personal transformation and what we can achieve when we face our deepest fears. \nIn this original work conceived and choreographed by dancer Amelia Moore with original music composed by Jed Miley\, the myth of the Descent of Inanna is a vehicle for exploring what it means to give up who we are to make room for who we will become. \nFlamenco is an art form of reclamation of identity through suffering and exile\, a cry of the joy and pain of human existence that gives strength and solace in its expression. This alchemy of triumph over difficulty can only be achieved when we have the strength to go willingly into our shadow and embrace it. \nCreated as an immersive theater experience\, the emotional and artistic range of flamenco is the means of peeling back the layers of our identity\, of embracing the lonely and exiled parts of ourselves\, and of bringing them into the light and fullness of our complete being. From Desintegration to Integration\, Initiation is an homage to this process of growth and transformation and the collective human lineage of inner wisdom we all share. \nOleaje Flamenco’s Amelia Moore (dance) and Jed Miley (guitar) are joined by very special guest artists Jose Moreno (vocals\, percussion & dance)\, Daniel Azcarate (vocals) Gordon Assadi (violin) and Ahmad Yousefbeigi (Middle Eastern percussion).
