SUMMARY:Suitcase Dance Theatre Fundraiser and Preview
DESCRIPTION:In preparation for a third year at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival\, Seattle dance company Suitcase Dance Theatre will host a fundraiser and preview of their original show\, Allura. \nComing off a busy spring performing at Moisture Fest\, the Fremont Art Council’s Unreal Gala\, and Folklife\, Suitcase Dance Theatre is preparing once again to perform at Edinburgh’s Fringe Festival. This year with a brand-new show conceived and choreographed by the company’s founder and director\, Veronica Mendonca. \nAllura is a captivating journey through a dreamy world where the seduction of shiny distractions is impossible to ignore. Performed by a multigenerational cast of nine dancers\, Allura incorporates rhythm and poetic monologue with Suitcase Dance Theatre’s signature blend of jazz\, tap\, ballet\, and contemporary dance styles. \nAmid the pandemic’s isolating grip\, Suitcase Dance Theatre formed out of a profound need to reconnect\, re-energize empty spaces and sustain the vital exchange of art within the Fremont community. The company transforms street corners\, window displays and other “everyday” pedestrian sites into vibrant hubs of artistic expression\, bringing art and human connection to unexpected places. Veronica Mendonca began her career at the Hong Kong Ballet. She has toured with the LA Opera and danced and choreographed for television and film. Veronica is the brains behind Fremont Fringe. Co-director Mark Mendonca has performed for three US presidents and on Broadway in the Tony Award–winning show Bring in ‘da Noise\, Bring in ‘da Funk. His dancing was motion captured for the animated film The Polar Express. The couple runs VAM Studios where Suitcase Dance Theatre is the resident dance company.

SUMMARY:IMPULSE CONTROL
DESCRIPTION:IMPULSE CONTROL is the debut full-length work of WhipLash Dance\, created and directed by Tyra Rose. The piece confronts addiction — not as a cautionary tale\, but as lived experience — tracing the tension between desire and restraint through visceral\, conceptually driven movement.\nOver four years and six movement studies\, audiences in Seattle have watched this work grow. From eXit SPACE’s takePAUSE\, BOOST\, and LAUNCH\, to the tri-bill CERBERUS\, this is where it lands.\nWith a contemporary dance base\, dance theater elements\, and a splash of camp\, IMPULSE CONTROL opens the door to harder conversations about addiction\, struggle\, and what it means to be human together.\nIMPULSE CONTROL runs June 24\, 25\, and 27\, 2026 at the Erickson Theater in Seattle.

DESCRIPTION:Experience the magic of Seattle’s longest-running modern dance company as Kaleidoscope presents the Gift of Dance\, our annual celebration of community during the holiday season! This awe-inspiring repertory company of dancers ages 7 to 17 has dazzled audiences for 44 years as the resident company of the Creative Dance Center. The Gift of Dance concert shares a message of hope and togetherness by embracing the power of youth and dance and uniting us in the human experience of the arts. \nThis unique concert features choreography by renowned artists along with impressive pieces created by the dancers themselves. Collaborating in multi-age groups they take charge of the creative process\, composing work that is deeply personal yet universal in its appeal to audiences of all ages. This year we explore what a color can evoke – the emotions\, objects\, and sense of place. Witness how these talented dancers translate this idea into mesmerizing movement in a vibrant concert for all ages! \nKaleidoscope is the longest-running modern dance company in Seattle\, founded in 1981 by Anne Green Gilbert. The company was directed by Anna Mansbridge from 2014-2023 and is currently directed by Bronwen Gilbert Houck\, an alum of the company and daughter of the founder. Kaleidoscope has supported more than 250 young dancers and collaborated with hundreds of professional choreographers over its 44 years history\, as well as entertaining audiences across the US and worldwide. Kaleidoscope is based at the Creative Dance Center located in the historic Haller Lake Community Club in North Seattle.

SUMMARY:Whim W'him: Fall '25
DESCRIPTION:Whim W’Him’s annual Fall Choreographic Shindig invites our company dancers to take the curatorial lead. Each year\, they select three choreographers from a highly competitive pool of international applicants\, creating a program that reflects their unique artistic perspectives and priorities. \nThis Shindig’s lineup features Chloe Crenshaw\, Genna Moroni\, and Lea Ved – three choreographers with distinct voices and powerful visions. Chloe shapes dreamlike terrain with precision and depth\, blending emotional nuance with sharp structural clarity. Genna’s work emerges from instinct and immediacy\, blending cinematic presence with deeply personal movement. At once intimate and expansive\, Lea’s work emerges from rigorous physical inquiry that invites vulnerability and transformation. Together\, these artists bring a compelling range of vocabularies and relevant meaning to the stage. \nJoin us for our special Sunday matinee on September 14\, hosted by our favorite queen of charm and cheek\, Betty Wetter\, back to stir things up with her signature wit and warmth.
