Suitcase Dance Theatre Fundraiser and Preview

In preparation for a third year at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Seattle dance company Suitcase Dance Theatre will host a fundraiser and preview of their original show, Allura.

Coming off a busy spring performing at Moisture Fest, the Fremont Art Council’s Unreal Gala, and Folklife, Suitcase Dance Theatre is preparing once again to perform at Edinburgh’s Fringe Festival. This year with a brand-new show conceived and choreographed by the company’s founder and director, Veronica Mendonca.

Allura is a captivating journey through a dreamy world where the seduction of shiny distractions is impossible to ignore. Performed by a multigenerational cast of nine dancers, Allura incorporates rhythm and poetic monologue with Suitcase Dance Theatre’s signature blend of jazz, tap, ballet, and contemporary dance styles.

Amid the pandemic’s isolating grip, Suitcase Dance Theatre formed out of a profound need to reconnect, re-energize empty spaces and sustain the vital exchange of art within the Fremont community. The company transforms street corners, window displays and other “everyday” pedestrian sites into vibrant hubs of artistic expression, bringing art and human connection to unexpected places. Veronica Mendonca began her career at the Hong Kong Ballet. She has toured with the LA Opera and danced and choreographed for television and film. Veronica is the brains behind Fremont Fringe. Co-director Mark Mendonca has performed for three US presidents and on Broadway in the Tony Award–winning show Bring in ‘da Noise, Bring in ‘da Funk. His dancing was motion captured for the animated film The Polar Express. The couple runs VAM Studios where Suitcase Dance Theatre is the resident dance company.
